Creative Photography and Your Smartphone

A Day Workshop at The Malvern Cube

10.30 am - 4.00 pm, 13th April 2024

Beginner to intermediate level

An engaging hands-on creative day that will teach you how to take and edit brilliant photographs using your smartphone.

This enjoyable introductory-level workshop will cover the essentials that you need to improve your photography. The day will support you to become more confident and creative with ample opportunities for discussion, experimentation and review as part of the group.

Our creative workshop will be based at the Malvern Cube which is a vibrant and welcoming community-led space in the heart of Malvern. You can find out more about The Cube here.

Our day will feature:

  • An introduction to the technical basics of smartphone photography
  • An illustrated discussion of what makes a good photograph
  • An exploration of basic photography terms including composition, light, focus and exposure
  • Two photo-making walks around The Cube
  • An introduction to the basics of editing your photographs on your cameraphone
  • An introduction to sharing your photographs on social media and sending them to others
  • Plenty of time to review and discuss your photographs and address any questions and issues that you have

What I offer

I am a UK-based photographer, filmmaker and artist with over 30 years of experience in the creative sector. As well as undertaking commissions, I now regularly run hands-on practical workshops, retreats and events with different individuals, communities and organisations. I am passionate about supporting people to help them develop their technical and creative photography and filmmaking. 

I am a smartphone camera enthusiast and now regularly use one as part of my creative work as a professional photographer and filmmaker. The power of the latest smartphone makes it much easier for beginners to take fantastic photographs and films without getting confused with countless controls and settings. While it may never replace the full-frame SLR camera, with smartphones the ability to take striking photographs is within reach of many more people. 

My creative workshops and courses will give you the support you need to improve your photography and filmmaking. While covering the technical essentials, the main focus will be on improving your skills in a supportive and enjoyable environment.
