Beginner to intermediate level

A hands-on creative day that will teach you the fundamentals of how to plan, record and edit films on your smartphone or tablet. 

This enjoyable introductory-level workshop will cover all the essentials of using your smartphone to create engaging and impressive short films. It will help you to get the best out of your camera to record high-quality material and sequence it together on your device. The day will support you to become more confident and creative with your device and provide ample opportunities for discussion, experimentation and review as part of the group.

Our day will feature:

  • An introduction to the technical basics of filming on the smartphone/tablet
  • An illustrated discussion of camera control
  • An exploration of basic terms including storyboard, composition, light, focus and exposure

  • Planning and recording a short film in and around The Fold
  • An introduction to editing and sharing
  • An introduction to sharing your photographs on social media and sending them to others
  • Plenty of time to review and discuss your, questions, ideas and films

£85 including light refreshments

What I offer

I am a UK-based photographer, filmmaker and artist with over 30 years of experience in the creative sector. As well as undertaking commissions, I now regularly run hands-on practical workshops, retreats and events with different individuals, communities and organisations. I am passionate about supporting people to help them develop their technical and creative photography and filmmaking. 

I am a smartphone camera enthusiast and now regularly use one as part of my creative work as a professional photographer and filmmaker. The power of the latest smartphone makes it much easier for beginners to take fantastic photographs and films without getting confused with countless controls and settings. While it may never replace the full-frame SLR camera, with smartphones the ability to take striking photographs is within reach of many more people. 

My creative workshops and courses will give you the support you need to improve your photography and filmmaking. While covering the technical essentials, the main focus will be on improving your skills in a supportive and enjoyable environment.
